I've had epilepsy for a long time (~13 years) and had treatment and all that. My life has been fine, successful, etc. .I'm now 27 years old and working. My problem is that lately I've had some bipolar disorder problems (2x), and I think it's due to the seizures. It doesn't affect my work because it didn't happen there.
Anyway, due to this I've been hospitalized and so had to take time off work. The doctors would give me different types of medications and so I would have to get used to side effects of these drugs-- sleepy, dizzy ,confused, mainly those kinds of problems which could effect my work. I would so choose to not go to work.
Long story short, some people at work I think just don't understand what is going on. They know that I have seizures and said that they understand my "problem" but they mentioned that I should have known this when I got the job. I'm not doing a job that requires flying or driving or anything like that, I just do a "normal" kind of job, and I was a very smart person before this; I am still smart, it's just that I think I'm a little slower now and have to ask them questions to recall things learned. I don't have a problem asking, but I guess they have a problem answering.
So what do you think I should do? How do I tell them this problem with the meds? I mean like it might make you slower, and that it might cause problems now that could cause hospitalization? I hate working with people that are not happy working with me.

Hello! My name is Brian Lund. You are having the same problems 99% of the people with Epilepsy or seizures have when it comes to work and people in this world. I put up with it myself for all most 40 years. I could never hold a job more than 3 - 5 months maximum back in the 1980's and 1990's because I would get hired on and they would say oh seizures that is no problem but after having 1 - 3 while on the job I would be fired.
I have had two Brain Surgeries for seizure control and ever since the second surgery in July, 2000 I have been seizure free, enjoying life and making a living working Full time in Casper, WY.
We have formed another Epilepsy Support group here in Casper and hope to get it up all around the state of Wyoming some day. The title of the group is Wyoming Epilepsy Association and our next meeting with be on Monday April 20th at 6:30 PM at the On the Border restaurant here in Casper, WY. If you live here in Casper and can attend please do you are welcome. Once again my name is Brian P. Lund and I have had Epilepsy since birth so honest I know what you are going through and now that I have been seizure free nearly 9 years I want to try to help others with support and advice.
Thank You:
Brian P. Lund
