My mother-in-law was taken to the ER today w/ bleeding from the rectum and w/bowel movements, weight loss, loss of energy and left upper quandrant pain. Her CT showed a "irregularity" of the colon and something on her spleen a possible growth. Irregularity?? Any ideas? Her father passed from colon cancer. Anyone with knowledge of the connection between the colon and spleen. I'm fearing cancer. Anyone with knowledge of colon cancer? If so, could it also effect the spleen? I welcome all responses. Just need some kind of answer before tomorrow. Thank you all.

An irregularity only means that they are not seeing the structures they would normally expect. So there is something that does not belong, but it's unknown what the nature of the growth is. The next step will probably be more scans, possibly an MRI since the CT was inconclusive, and a biopsy where they use a needle to retrieve cells from the affected area.
A referral to an oncologist should be next with her history. They are the experts in abnormal cell growth and can determine if it's cancer, and if so what needs to be done for treatment.
