As a treatment for epilepsy, they occasionally partially sever the two hemispheres of the brain. This sometimes leads to the left and right sides of the patients body acting independently.
From another angle: we have the technology to send and receive impulses to/from the brain. Most people imagine that if two people had this, it would amount to them talking via 'telepathy'. I've got a feeling though that assuming connections of a high-enough resolution and bandwidth the brains would adapt more so that something of a single consciousness would arise.
I'm just curious to know what religious folk think about what this means for the idea of a soul.
It'd be nice if people actually said something related to the whole long text I just laid out.

I've a feeling that your intuition may be giving you a glimmer of reality. I've also a feeling most of those thus far answering didn't bother thinking much before answering. But I've more than a feeling that our souls, and even our very reality is not bounded to and by neurons, synapses, axons or neural connections. While I would agree we are all connected, methinks you are too bounded by earthly matters and concerns to see celestial realities. I think your concept of consciousness is a bit to unconventional to stand up to scrutiny.
I've to go. Let me think about it some more. My answer seems to be lacking, but I can't quite put a finger on it. I may be back, but then again, perhaps not. Depends on the things I've to do.
