I have like a couple questions in one. When can you get an epidural? What can you feel after you recieve an epidural? Were there any side effects when you got an epidural?

I had an epidural with both pregnancies, you'll receive it when you are about 5 cm. dilated, when you get the epidural you can't feel anything (it's like you're not even in labor, it's wonderful), I didn't have any side effects, but it can cause vomiting.
Now sometimes the the epidural doesn't work. With my second child they gave me the epidural, and I laid back down and could still feel the contractions, my doc checked me and I was already 10 cm (when I sat up so he could put the epidural in I was only 5)! That's how fast things can progress. Each woman is different, and each delivery is different. So just be prepared for anything!
