Anyone Have an Epidural?

I have like a couple questions in one. When can you get an epidural? What can you feel after you recieve an epidural? Were there any side effects when you got an epidural?

Jessica April 11, 2009 at 7:14 am: I had an epidural with both pregnancies, you'll receive it when you are about 5 cm. dilated, when you get the epidural you can't feel anything (it's like you're not even in labor, it's wonderful), I didn't have any side effects, but it can cause vomiting.

Now sometimes the the epidural doesn't work. With my second child they gave me the epidural, and I laid back down and could still feel the contractions, my doc checked me and I was already 10 cm (when I sat up so he could put the epidural in I was only 5)! That's how fast things can progress. Each woman is different, and each delivery is different. So just be prepared for anything!
