Yes there are some risks to an epidural. The risk is of course greater when the anesthesiologist is less experienced. If you live in a bigger city, chances are the anesthesiologists are more experienced. I had two babies "au natural" and two with epidurals. I will take my epidural deliveries over my natural any day. I was fully aware of what was going on, not overwhelmed with pain. I felt more a part of the moment. There was laughter and smiles, not moans and groans. I have no side effects whatsoever from the procedure, just great memories of my deliveries.
