My nutritionist tells most of her patients that they should try to eat 45 grams at each meal, not including snacks.(this is how she does with her two small boys that both diabetes.) If you try the South Beach diet, you won't have to count carbs or calories or use an exchange system. It's a good diet for diabetics and it's safe. My nutritionist suggested it to me because I hate to count anything. It gives you lists of food that you and and cannot eat, has recipes and is very easy to follow. It does not raise ketones like the Atkins diet can, which is dangerous to diabetics. You can get a copy at Walmart for around $12. (paperback edition)
