Diabetes Insipidus-a disorder of the pituitary gland characterized by intense thirst and by the excretion of large amounts of urine.

diabetes means urine. Diabetes mellitus, what most people think of when they hear diabetes means "sweet urine", since the kidneys excrete glucose. Insipid means lacking flavor, since the urine is very dilute. These terms originated when the only test was tasting the urine.
Lack of vasopressin however, has no association with diabetes mellitus.
