I don't know the answer to your question, but I'd like to gently encourage you, in addition to asking your doctor this question, to try the only tried-and-true standard, diet and exercise. I know that it isn't the quick way, and that, especially if you have much weight to lose, it can seem overwhelming to do this, especially exercise, but you can do it. The benefits to you, long term, will be so important to you, considering you have both hypertension and diabetes. Exercise will help your body in so many ways, not just with your weight. And losing the weight slowly will help you regulate your blood sugar. Additionally, diet can have a huge impact on your blood sugar and blood pressure. You can start slowly with both of these things. Talk to your doctor about a plan, or perhaps a referal to a dietician (usually covered by insurance) as well as perhaps a trainer (might be convered by insurance if prescribed by your doc). A book I would recommend is "Body For Life" (there is a womens' version of this program as well which is GREAT if you are female). So many people, even those with conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, have turned their lives around with this program. Diet pills will NOT work for you in the long run. The only thing that will both improve your conditions and help you lose weight is a lifestyle change, such as modifying your diet and exercise. Good luck to you, you can do it! (On a side note, diet and exercise will also help radically decrease your risk of heart disease, heart attack and stroke, ALL of which you have risk factors for already.)
