Does the Fact a Dog Drinks a Lot of Water Point to Any Health Issues?

I have been advised that my partners dog seems to drink a lot of water and this could point to a health problem, probably diabetis. Is this the case?

Could be diabetis, failing that, it's just thirsty in the heat!
