Well I have two beautiful daughters with completely different births. Both of my pregnancies were great, and my first child came right on her due date, my water broke that morning at 6:30 a.m. however I was not dilating so they put me on the “pit drip” it is an IV of Pitocin that makes you have contractions, since they were forced contractions they were painful, finally I decided on an epidural, however I got it when I was dilated at 7 and 1/2, (she was born twelve hours later) it somewhat took but I could still feel the birth and to this day six years later I can still tell where they put it in at, it occasionally throbs, my second experience in child birth was nothing like the first. The day that she was due I was having horrible back labor, finally it hurt so bad that I went to the hospital and I was dilated to a four they sent me home, it only got worse throughout the night, finally at 7:00 the next morning we went to the hospital I was a 5 and they kept me, I was dilating fast but my water had not broke at 10:00 they broke my water and I went from a 5 to an 8 and didn’t have time for an epidural, so I had her without any pain medicine and it really did hurt like !@*# but once she was out the pain just went away. This is a very personal decision and you cannot predict how your delivery is going to go, it may not even be an option you could end up having a C-section. I personally would not get another epidural, it hurt when I got it because they made me sit up and bend over so they could stick this huge needle up back, which was very unpleasant. If I have baby number 3 it will be au natural.
