Fibromyalgia: Should I Go on Social Security?

by admin

I am 19 yrs old and have Fibromyalgia. I have had it for the last seven years, and yes, I have actually been diagnosed. I looked into getting on disability just so I could afford treatment, but they said I would have to quit school and couldnt work at all. I dont want to live like that. I was told by my doctor that I should stop trying to work, and just go on disability because I would never be able to hold a steady job. Although I really don't want to be on disability, I think it may be the only way because I have had to quit from five jobs in the last year for FMS. Some days are good and some are not so good. I never know and it creates a lot of problems. I keep making big plans to go to work and school and have a life, but I know I am just fooling myself because I am a risk as it is. I want to go to school and work and get away from my mom. I had to move back in with her and my dad after I lost my last job. She reminds me every day of my issue and she's not nice. She says she cant trust me because I have memory problems and I am not consistent physically. Anyway, I am looking for some advice on what to do here. Thanks for any help.

Be aware that is is very hard to get approved for disability-most people say it takes 2-3 years.

At your age you will not get much of a benefit-SS disability is based on teh amount of work you've done in the past.

Contact the ss office-online or by phone–to ask ehat your benefit would be.

You can work a little on disability-I believe it is up to $900/month income.

You should go ahead and get a disabiity classification by teh government–and tehan start looking for programs taht will help-such as ticket to work, vocational rehab, medicaid
