How Does Numbness in Legs/feet Affect Embolisms?

by admin

I've had a pulmonary embolism diagnosed in both my lungs, and the cause is not diagnosed. I have had numb pads on the bottom of both my feet for 2 to 3 years, and recently a numb muscle from my hip to left knee. Is it possible that this numbness had/has anything to do with my now having to be medicated with warfarin to thin my blood?

Indirectly. Usually numbness in your feet is a sign of either 1) arterial or 2) venous insufficiency in the legs which essentially means your have some form of vascular disease. In venous insufficiency your veins don't return the blood as well as you would like, thus it pools more and is at risk for forming clots which subsequently find themselves in your lungs. As you can see, the numbness is likely a sign of something else that could be related to your pulmonary emboli. Alternatively, you could have peripheral neuropathy, which is usually found in diabetes which makes it vastly more likely you have vascular disease to lead to clots which lead to emboli. Or they could be totally unrelated. I hope this gives you some insight!
