Are you sure that the dust was coming from asbestos as asbestos materials were rarely used in bathrooms?

The highest percentage of people who develop mesothelioma are those who have worked with asbestos over a long period, i.e. a decade or more. However, this does not imply that short exposure to asbestos rules out any risk, it just means that your risk is a lot lower.

As a rule of thumb - the longer exposure - the higher the risk. Also, the type of asbestos one has inhaled is of relevance as some types are more harmful than others, i.e. blue and brown asbestos is far more harmful than white asbestos.

In terms of an insurance claim - mesothelioma can take 10-40 years to develop and it has a very high mortality rate. Therefore it would be your loved ones that would be suing for industrial injury.

Hope this helps,

Ann.
