Hypoglycemia

by admin

Question: I was just wondering about hypoglycemia... does there HAVE to be a contributing factor to have it, or can a person just have Low Blood Sugar? I'm seveteen, and nearly every symptom fits me perfectly, before I found out about hypo., I'd thought I was crazy. My mom experiences the same things as I do, as does my brother and sister. She (my mom) had the type of diabetes you get when you're pregnant, but it went away. My grandfather (my mom's father) has Type 2 Diabetes. Is there a chance I have hypoglycemia?

Answer: Hypoglycemia is define as low blood sugar or glucose level.  Hypoglycemia comprised of physical signs such as weakness, sweating, intense hunger, nervousness, trembling  and abnormal laboratory result such as low blood glucose level of below 80-70 mg./dl.

Contributing factor for hypoglycemia- For you since you are not a diabetic and you are not on any diabetic meds such as insulin then maybe due to inadequate food intake and or excessive physical activities such as exercise. Eat properly especially if you will engage yourself to a heavy physical activity so will not experience hypoglycemia.

About your question "My grandfather (my mom's father) has Type 2 Diabetes. Is there a chance I have hypoglycemia?" There's possibilty that you will develop or acquire diabetic (not only hypoglycemia) due to your grandfather having a diabetic.

Have a regular blood level check up. You can do it at home with a small blood glucose devise. For further assessment I suggest do a lab test HgA1c- this test show your blood level for 3 months. But still not a test to confirm if you are a diabetic.

Thanks for asking.
