I am 24 years old and have maintained a relatively healthy lifestyle. But my father has kidney issues (he has has two transplants) and is now dieing of liver cancer and he has diabetes. Recently I have been overly thirsty and going to the bathroom all the time, along with feeling really run down and tired a lot. I am hypoglycemic and I knwo that can sometimes lead to diabetes should I test myself with my dad's monitor? and call my doc? I run all the time and train for marathons I know this could set me back big time if I don't take care of it.
I Think My Symptoms May Be Diabetes?

You bet it will mess with your training!! But you don't need to let that stop or even slow you down.
Yes, the symptoms are right!! Go see the doc and ask for CBC and FGTT both. CBC is complete blood count and will rule out everything else and anyway it is good when you are training hard to know what your blood is doing. FGTT is Fasting Glucose Tolerance Test. You go in hungry and they give you some icky sweet syrup to drink, testing your glucose before and an hour and several more times later.
Some people say diabetes can only be diagnosed with the GTT and some say finger sticks are enough.
But why mess with maybes!! Your dad is reason enough to stay on top of your health!! The sooner you calm your mind – destress on the diagnosis or not – the sooner you can get on with your training.
Much good luck in your marathon running!!!
