3000 mg (3 grams) or 1-1/2 teaspoons of salt is recommended for healthy folks. You need some sodium in your diet – somewhere between 900-1500 mg. So discuss this with your doctor and in the meantime, restrict your intake to an average of maybe 1200 mg/day.
