retina detachment is at the back of the eyes. so contact lens wear is not a problem, as it is only on the front surface of the eye.
after cataract surgery, you cannot wear contact lens yet. u need to wait for the doctor to remove the stitch and heal first before you can wear contact lens.
few months after surgery, you can still wear contact lens and it is safe to do so.
however, when i say it is safe to do so, doesn't mean that you are a suitable to wear contact lens. you still have to go to a optometrist to check the health of your eyes and let them put the lens on in your eyes and check the lens fitting. if everything is fine, then you can wear contact lenses.
