I have just been diagnosed with epilepsy and prescribed the medication Keppra. Is it any good? Experiences with Keppra? Thanks.

I've had epilepsy since I was 14 i think…but was diagnosed only when i was 18… i've taken Epilim, Depakote ER and now my doctor said i should change to Keppra. I started taking Keppra about 2/3 months ago…in the beginning, i started off with 1000mg a day, but then i had about 5 seizures in a day and was admitted to hospital (i normally rarely have seizures– controlled with meds). so they increased my dosage to 1500mg a day but about a month later i had 3 seizures in a day. although wasn't admitted to hosp, the doc said to increase the dosage to 2000mg a day. so that's what i'm taking now. when i took Depakote ER, i gained weight very fast because of the increase in appetite. but since taking keppra, i lost about 25lbs. i also don't experience as much hair loss as before and my period is more regulated.
However, everytime i increase the dosage, i do feel very groggy, confused and like everything is weird. i can't remember things that i'm used to doing, my motor coordination is a bit off. i also get angry and irritated very fast, and i say things that are on my mind without thinking. it's like when ur drunk or something like that. It does go away after about 10 days or so…
I did have a seizure today, but it was only once, and my mom said that i got out of it faster than i used to. i even went to the mall about an hour later.
So, although i'm NOT a doctor, i do think that keppra is better than the other meds i've taken. it is quite expensive tho. i pay about $250 for 60 pills, which is about $500 a month, and i don't have insurance. i would suggest that u don't drive or operate machinery in the first few weeks or until u get used to it. also, drink lots of water and try and exercise. it does help. even just brief walks are good. and the keppra website does have a seizure diary. i would suggest using that to keep track of ur seizures and other things.
I hope this info helps. if u have any other Q's, don't hesitate to ask.
Good Luck!
