I will be 40 weeks pregnant on Tuesday and all day today I have had back pain and pain in my lower stomach that feels like cramps. I am feeling about 4 or 5 cramps an hour and my back will hurt at the same time. I am also having a lot of pressure and every time I stand up or walk I get a really sharp pain in my abdomen. The baby has dropped and his movements have been very slow lately, but today he has been moving like crazy. At my last doctor's appointment last Wednesday I was not dilated at all. So, my question is, should I wait this out at home or go to the hospital to be checked? The pain is not unbearable, but it is uncomfortable.

I'd wait awhile, if the contractions become timeable and evenly spaced, i'd call the l & D dept. and they'll tell you how far apart they want them before you come in. But it sounds like early labor, which can last a few hours, or a few days…
