MORAL Question… I’m TORN!!?

by admin

I'm completely torn on whether or not I should spay my puppy!!!

The part that is really making me torn about this is that I feel like it's not my place. Like, it shouldn't be up to me whether or not she has puppies or not. I feel like it's evil of me to take away her ability to give birth. Who am I to take that away from her? But then I think, well it's even more evil to let her experience birth and just take her litter away from her anyway... so. Yeah. I can't decide! and she is now 7 months old and just started her very first "period" or "heat" or whatever. And I'm like literally getting dizzy and my heart pounds fast just thinking about doing this to her.

Some facts:

Pros: She and her potential offspring won't contribute to the population of unwanted pets - More than 3 million cats and dogs are euthanized in shelters each year nationwide. She won't have to deal with wearing diapers or being locked in a cage for one week every month, and/or I won't have to deal with blood stains.

Cons: Dogs can react badly to anesthesia in spite of precautions or can experience complications during recovery. Some dogs react negatively to the suture material used, and incisions do not heal properly. Additional drawbacks specific to spay surgery include increased incidence of bladder incontinence, triple the frequency of thyroid disease, and higher risk of some cancers, joint problems, and obesity and adverse reactions to vaccinations. Inability to give birth.

I just love her so much and want to do what's best but don't know if the "best" thing is morally sound.

She's a chihuahua if your curious.
my mind says yes (get her spayed) but my heart says no (don't do it).

Dogs do not think like people do. It does not know it has an ability to get puppies and it will not miss losing it.

For dog it is much more stress-free to be spayed – it will not be harassed by males and it will not be all restless during the heat.

Also, if you are not going to let her have puppies it is healtier choice to spay her – bitches that are not spayed and are not allowed to have puppies have much higher risk of developing uterine infection, which can be very serious condition. My beagle had it and it nearly died – if I took a bitch now I would certainly take it to be spayed.
