Need Crucial Help on Knowledge About Sciatic Nerve Damage
Over 2 years ago we were on holiday in create and my dad slipped a disc in his back. he was taken to a hospital in Greece and nobody is entirely sure what treatment he was given as they were not very good at telling us what was going on.
so once my dad came home he couldn't walk and was in alot of pain and it was obvious the disc hadnt popped back even after days. i want to make it clear that at no point am i over exagerating the pain my dad was and is in. my father is not the kind to show he is in pain especially to his children, me and my sister. he is extremely embarassed by his condition and how it has weakened him and degrades him. so i want you to know that when i say he was in a lot of pain i mean that very truthfully.
so as my dad is a policeman the police got him an operation. i am not fully clear but from what i understand they wanted to remove the broken disc which was crushing his sciatic nerve. they did this and even after the operstion it was apparent something was still wrong.
my dad was in a constant need of very heavy duty pain killers as he had pain from his buttox all down his leg to his toes.
He was in this constant pain for aover a year becoming increasingly depressed. no doctor in scotland could find what was causing him pain and all they wanted to do was put him on more and more pain medication.
My uncle lives in england and he managed to find an expert in backs there. my dad travelled to england and they did some special xray and found a tiny fragment of the disc still putting pressure on the nerve.
this news was the best we had had in months and we finally thought my dad was going to get better.
so my dad travelled to england again for one more operation.
they successfully removed the fragment and the doctor told us that it either would work or it wouldnt but he had done all he could.
but little did i know that for my dad it was apparent within days that the operation had not worked.
he kept this from me and my sister for a while though.
Now my dad's pain is the same, maybe worse he has said. doctors put him on medication for skitzophrenia and epilepsy as they have side effects of decreasing nerve pain.
however my dad is still continuesly plagued by intense pain. for some reason it is worse at night and he has suffered from alot of sleep loss.
also the other side effects of the drugs cause him to have bad moods, drowsyness, limb spasms, etc.
He is unable to work because of the combination of his pain and the drug side effects. he has already been cut to half pay and sooner or later he will lose his job.
this is a big deal. his job means alot to him.
i honestly dont know what will happen to him if he loses his job.
before the second operation my mum (who is effected almost as much seeing her husband like this),in a hysterical state told me he was suicidal because of the pain.
So i really need somebodies help. desperately. a doctor or something or anyone whos been in the same boat.
we have tried pretty much every sort of alternative treatment like acupuncture and physiotherapy.
so any help at all would be appreciated so much, even just similar cases,
thankyou
