Person with Epilepsy Sometimes Show Violent Behavior After Having a Seizure

I have epilepsy and sometime after having a real bad seizure I become very violent, by trying to hit my friends or the medics that are helping me.

That happens a lot… You should discuss this with your doctor since it sounds like nobody has advised you of the 'norms' you can expect through life with Epilepsy.

I am a nurse at a high school, and we have many epileptic students who seize frequently (mostly because they are non-compliant with their meds), and sometimes it is very difficult for me to handle the boys after a seizure, because they are so much bigger than me…

There are some kids that I automatically dial 9-1-1 for because their history of violence is strong…I just stay out of the way and advise others to do the same so they don't get hurt.

This is just the brain's reaction to the extensive / rapid stimulation during a seizure.

The only way you can quit worrying about it is to talk with your doctor and examine the possibility of managing your epilepsy with a different combination of meds.

Unfortunately for some, the violent responses are just going to happen, no matter what.

Good luck!
