All the answers given to you here are based on statistical averages. Everyone's health is different therefore everyone will not have exact numbers they should live by. Every diabetic needs to find the number(s) that right for them........I agree that 140 mg/dl is high but that's high for a non-diabetic, the American Diabetes Association claims diabetics should not go above 180mg/dl, another professional group claims 160 should be the max.......
As for low numbers I use 60 mg/dl because I tend to run a little low but that's normal for me.
So we each have to determine which numbers are best for us with our doctors guidance.
