When Did You First Feel Your Baby Move?

by admin

I am about 11 weeks pregnant, this is my second baby. I was lying and watching tv (like two minutes ago) and felt some movment on the upper right side of my abdomen. Which is also where my daughter loved to kick me (which got real annoying when she would lodge her foot into my ribs, lol).
But I thought it was too early to feel the baby moving? I even checked on a few sites and they say that they do start moving around 7-8 weeks, but most moms dont feel it until around 16 weeks. I know it can be earlier with a second baby, but i am also not the skinnest person ever and i read that that can make it take longer to feel the movement as well. But i also know what gas feels like and that definetly wasnt it. I am not sure if i am imagining it, or if it possible to feel it this early... oh and does that also mean this kid is going to be huge, lol? (just thought of that, and its a very scary revelation).

When did all you moms (or if you are a guy, when did your significant other...) feel that first kick? was it your first or second, etc? And did you notice it earlier with a second or third (etc) child?
oh and i also laid flat and watched and i saw my stomach moving up where i felt movement... after hearing the answers it seems unlikely that it would happen this early, especially since i am a bit bigger. but i dont know what else it could be.

I still keep feeling it too... maybe i am just farther along than i thought?
Long story, but i had a problem with my insurance so i have not been to a doc appt yet (i know horrible). so i figured out my due date from the first day of my last period. which is why i said about 11 weeks.
So maybe thats what it is.
Samantha G. -- thanks, thats great! it wasnt too far up, i just wasnt sure how to describe it, but it was up towards the right side, and i thought that maybe i felt it there because thats where my first would always kick... maybe its stretched out more there?
my aunt did tell me that i am probably having a boy because i had such bad morning sickness. I am trying not to get too excited because i really am hoping for a boy, but all the old wives tales seem to be pointing at that!

Congrats on the first kick! I have 4 kids and was very very in tune with when my babies were kicking. I think most people confuse kicking with gas and gas with kicking. The fact that you were laying down may have been what helped you feel your baby kick. Despite what you describe as "not being the skinniest person" you may have in fact felt your baby move since you were laying down, because your skin is more taunt and doing so brings the baby closer up into the uterus.
Now the one thing I wonder about is that you felt the movement in your upper right side. Your baby should only be about 1.5" right now so I don't think you would have felt it kick or mve that far up, but then again I am not sure how far up you felt it.
I am no expert but I know for a fact I felt my second baby moving at 12 weeks pregnant and it progressively got to be more and more often as time went on, so YES, you probably felt your baby moving for the first time…..
P.S. An old wives tale says that boys move a lot quicker in utero than girls do!
