I have a very puzzling question for knowledgeable cat folks to consider!
My white Oriental Shorthair neuter, Hubble, has a passion for hot, sudsy water from the bathtub. He doesn't seem to be interested in drinking any soapy water from the sink, but he is totally into drinking lots of hot sudsy water from our bathtub.
He does not have kidney disease, or diabetes. He does have diabetes Insipidus which is not related to sugar diabetes. This is a condition where he lacks a hormone which allows the kidneys to absorb water and process it normally. He is receiving this hormone daily in an oral suspension prescribed by my vet, called desmopressin .

Since he has been receiving this hormone, his urine specific gravity is now perfectly normal, and his electrolytes are also normal. He is tested every 6 weeks, in fact. Prior to treatment, his urine was almost completely water and he was peeing buckets. His urine production is also completely normal now as well.
Does anyone have an idea why he is so "addicted" to hot soapy water? Our vet has no idea what is so attractive to him. His brother has no interest in bath water at all. We are just at a loss about this, and of course, we dissuade him from his predilection.
Thanks for any helpful information. My husband and I are mystified.
This "passion" started before he was diagnosed with D.I. This has been happening since he was a kitten!
This is not bubble bath folks! This is regular bath soap and he has no preference over brands!

I have no idea either! LOL my Maine Coons some love soapy dish water and know when you are washing dishes. I only take showers but there are several who hang out waiting for for the water to hit the back of the wall. Most of them love a bath. Not all but most. I think this is one of the mysteries of cats that we will never figure out. Isn't it wonderful that we know them so well and then in the same breath we don't know what makes them tick! Each is so different from the others and I just marvel at each kitten born here they are all lovable and sweet but very very different. In what they like and don't. Thanks for reminding me just how each one is different in their likes and dislikes. You made me smile and feel that warm fuzzy feeling all over. Remember what makes each one different and what is so special about each one because we don't know how long we have with them.
Thanks!
