Anxiety – Worry and fear are normal emotions that every human being tends to feel, but constant and excessive worry and fright should cause alarm. These episodes can be referred to as panic attacks and can affect young and old people. These attacks can eventually disrupt daily activities may last for a few minutes and be very hard to control. Irritable bowel syndrome, chronic pain, “fight-or-flight” hormones causing rare tumors, diabetes, heart disease, hyperthyroidism, and other Thyroid problems are also some of these complicated health problems. Anxiety may also be due to drug abuse, withdrawal from alcohol, or the use of medications like anti-anxiety medications the likes of benzodiazepines. Aside from these, people who have been through traumatic experiences, stress, mental health disorders, blood relations with another anxiety disorder sufferer, and use of alcohol or drugs are also highly at risk for anxiety.

Complications of anxiety

Anxiety disorder is more than the usual worriedness that many people feel. This condition can result or co-occur with many other physical and mental problems like depression, bowel, and digestive problems, headaches and other chronic pains, poor life quality, functioning problems at work or in school, insomnia social isolation, substance abuse, and/or suicide.

Prevention of Anxiety

While anxiety is very common and can primarily be helped, it can also be prevented. Below are some of the natural ways it can be prevented from developing.

1. Avoid triggers. People who have traumatic experiences that are brought about by subjects or places should not be mentioned or taken to those who will bring back the memories. By simply evading those specific topics or going to those places, anxiety disorders or episodes can be prevented.

2. Indulge in an active life. Stress is a very powerful trigger of anxiety and to lessen it, engaging in hobbies, especially those that will physically occupy a person, is a very healthy practice.

3. Do not use alcohol or abuse drugs. Vices like alcohol and drugs often cause, if not worsen anxiety disorder. It is therefore highly recommended to steer clear of these bad things.

4. Stop or quit smoking. Nicotine is a trigger of anxiety disorder so it is best to stop it before it worsens the condition.

5. Do not abuse or quit the use of caffeinated beverages. Caffeine, just like nicotine, is also a powerful anxiety trigger so it is best to cut back on its use or it eventually worsens the situation.

6. Get plenty of sleep. Taking naps or sleeping well is a powerful stress reliever.

7. Eat healthily. Nutrients are the best line of defense against any form of disorder.
