does depo provera really harm an unborn baby? I need to know!?

I got my first depo shot on Jan 31st, and I had a pregnancy test that same day. I told my dr that if I was pregnant, it would be too early to detect because it was only a week after I might've conceived. She told me that it would be ok to go ahead and get the shot in case I'm not pregnant. I asked her if I was pregnant, would it harm the baby? She told me no! She said it wouldn't hurt the baby and there was nothing to worry about. Everything I'm reading says it can harm an unborn child! I never did get my period since my first shot. I've now missed three periods, which I know "may" be a side effect of the shot, eventhough you period "should" slowly dissappear over time with each shot. What's worrying me now is that I'm having pregnancy-like symptoms and even baby-like movements in my lower abdomen! The hpt's I took a couple months ago came back with a faint positive, but the dr's came back neg. I feel like my dr lied to me about the shot harming the baby! Anyone know more?
