A few questions for people who have epilepsy or seizure disorders?

1. How do you feel shortly before your seizure?
2. Do you have any awarness of your surroundings during a seizure?
3. How do you feel physically and mentally afterwards?
4. How long does it take you to feel back to "normal"?

I have a small dog who has epilepsy (she is on phenobarbitol), and I am just curious as to how she feels before, during, and after one of her seizures.

All answers are greatly appreciated!

There are several different types of epilepsy, and each type is characterized by different symptoms. I don't know a whole lot about epilepsy in animals, and how it differs from that in humans. But anyway, to answer your question:

    1. With my types of seizures, I wake up knowing that I'm going to have a seizure that day. I feel very dazed, and though I am aware of what is going on around me, I am very slow to comprehend things. My eyes flutter uncontrollably, and if I don't go back to sleep and take a pill that stops the seizure, symptoms progress. Horrible headaches, stomachaches..I feel like I'm really sick.

    2. I am aware of my surroundings, but it takes me longer to process what is going on. Although I am able to hold conversations, they are very cut-and-dry, and not very well thought out. A lot of what I say doesn't make sense.

    3. Two words- Absolutely drained. My body and mind are both physically tired.

    4. Until the next day. On days that I wake up knowing I will have a seizure, I sleep the whole day. It's a waste of a day, but it's what I have to do. The next morning I wake up and feel fine.

Hope this helped a little and good luck with your dog!
