Can you explain Type 1 diabetes to me in an easy to understand way?

My sister was diagnosed almost three years ago (at age 27) with Type 1 diabetes and I'm afraid I still don't fully understand it. I'd love some help in understanding what she's dealing with, thanks~

Haha. I also have Type 1 Diabetes, and sometimes people around me get confused about what it is(: I hope this helps.

Okay, Type 1 Diabetes occurs when your pancreas cannot produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone in your body which allows sugar in your blood to enter your cells for use (energy, etc.). When the pancreas cannot produce insulin, sugar is stuck in your blood, causing high blood sugar or hyperglycemia and your body to weaken in some sort. Diabetics have to give injections of insulin through needles/syringes to control their blood sugar and allow sugar to reach your cells for energy and to live(: There's further information, but I think thats the main thing you shoud know about diabetes type1. I hope this helps(: If you have any other questions just email me at
