My wife has seizures about 1-2 times a month. She is taking medicine for it. Does anyone know if it causes either memory loss or brain damage. Over the years, it seems like she is no longer as sharp as she use to be.
Does epilepsy & seizures cause brain damage?

Yes, I have epilepsy and seizures definitely cause damage. The more synaptic cascading that takes place the easier it is to happen again. It's like water carving a channel out of the soil, the more water the deeper the channel.
I experienced zombie-head (an overall dulling of cognitive function) but I believe this was due more to the dilantin I was taking than to the seizures themselves, as I've been off meds for a few years and can finally think clearly again.
So yes, the more seizures you have the easier it is to seize the next time and something–either seizures or meds–causes cognitive dampening.
