    no actually alcohol abuse is when anyone abuses alcohol ie they get drunk because they drank too much its the same as drug abuse ie ppl use prescriptions and take more than they are suppossed to to get high
    alcohol dependence is when a person has to have alcohol every day and that means that that person would be a alcoholic
    so no they are not the same but alcohol dependence is part of the definition of an alcoholic
