Gaucher disease is an inherited (genetic) condition that is due to a deficiency in the enzyme glucocerebrosidase.
Gaucher disease leads to the accumulation of fatty substances in certain organs.
The main signs and symptoms of Gaucher disease are:
- Anemia (low red blood cell count)
- Fatigue(tiredness)
- Low platelet count, that can lead to easy bruising.
- Enlarged spleen and liver (hepatosplenomegaly)
- Easy bleeding that is difficult to stop.
