when a person has diabetis why do they cut off their leg?

i know that they dont cut them off in all cases, but when they do why do they do it. Ive always wanted to know.

    Diabetes interferes with the effectiveness of the circulatory system. Less blood is delivered by the arteries…so the oxygenation of the tissues isn't normal. In some cases the tissues die…due to lack of oxygen…and gangrene sets in…which necessitates the removal of the limb. It most often happens in the legs…because they are the largest limb…and require the most oxygen.
