Acne is one of the main skin condition that mostly affects teenagers. To fight acne, you must fully understand what acne is, so set back and learn.
Acne / Acne Vulgaris- is a common disorder of the sebaceous (oil) glands and their hair follicles (pilosebaceous follicles). It is characterized by the presence of closed comedones (whiteheads), open comedones (blackheads), papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts. It occurs most readily on the face and back, where sebaceous follicles are more numerous.
Acne is the most commonly encountered skin conditions affecting the age of 12 and 35 years of age. It becomes more marked at puberty and during adolescence, because at this age certain endocrine glands of the body influence the secretion of sebaceous glands and functioning at peak activity. It may persist well into adulthood. The etiology of acne appears to be multiple, reflecting interplay of genetic, hormonal and bacterial factors.
What do you expect if you have an acne?
1. The initial lesions of acne are comedones, closed comedones (whiteheads). Whiteheads are small, whitish papules with minute follicular openings that generally cannot be seen.
2. Open comedones (blackheads). The color of the blackhead is not due to dirt but to an accumulation of lipid, bacterial, and epithelial debris that obstructs the flow of sebum.
3. Inflammatory reaction due to leakage of follicle contents (sebum, bacteria, keratin). The inflammation is seen clinically as papules, pustules, nodules, cysts, or abscesses.
