I had Gastric Bypass in 2003, lost a ton of weight but gained a bit back. Im nowhere near how huge I was before though. Im healthy now, no blood pressure probs, cholesterol probs etc. Im 16 wks and 5 days pregnant. Because of my GBp, I should not have a glucose test. I didnt know that and had the one hr. The limit was 135 and my number was 135. So they sent me for the 4 hr with 100 glucose instead of 50. I almost passed out in the waiting room, I was gagging, my vision blurry, it was horrendous. My first hr was high, but the following hrs were normal. My bariatric surgeon was horrified that I had this done. The OBgyn has now classified me as having gestational diabetes because of these tests but wont believe me when I say Im not supposed to have had the tests done because they are damaging to me and unreliable. Im testing my blood 4x a day, my ketones, logging my diet. Its all fine unless I eat food my non-existent stomach cant digest anymore. Corn, potato, toast, butternut…all fine.
BUT if I get whole grain, brown rice or pasta, suddenly my blood sugar is at 145-158 an hr later but is in the 80's another hr later. I have tried to work with the nutritionist about working with my gastric bypass way of eating but she is pushing foods like brown rice because she says "the baby needs it to grow". Shes not pushing the protein which is what my body is deficient in and the portion sizes are too big for me. They say I must eat them. And when I say its not that I dont have insulin, its that I dont have a stomach, they dont believe me. They keep pushing the rice and pastas etc, 40g a meal and of course, I dont digest it properly and my BS goes high.
Ive been told they want to put me on Insulin now so that I can eat these things. Im getting mad! I dont see the point of pushing insulin on me if Im not diabetic. How do I deal with this? If I eat the way they're telling me, Im going to gain a lot of weight, too much weight. They arent understanding my condition. Help!!!
Im just frustrated cos theyre not helping me, and not understanding me. Should I ask my bariatric surgeon to step in and talk to them? Explain how my body works now? I know this baby is fine. I know he/she is getting superb nutrition. I know my blood sugar is fine UNLESS I eat their diet.
Do I really need things like rice and pasta for the baby to grow or can I get the carbs from elsewhere?
